About PICP

From fragmented records to continuous quality assurance.

PICP promotes the modernization, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency of diagnostic imaging services in the United States through advanced digital solutions for quality assurance management.

The initiative centers on a digital platform modeled on QRcq, a system originally developed and tested in Brazil. It is designed to help imaging facilities move beyond manual, paper-based documentation of quality control tests for mammography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging.

The proposed platform organizes test data into an automated, traceable, auditable workflow—supporting timely action, consistent oversight, and alignment with applicable quality and regulatory requirements.

Core objectives

Four priorities. One accountable quality system.

Image quality, regulatory compliance, patient safety, and innovation guide the design and evaluation of PICP.

Image Quality

Ensure consistent diagnostic image quality.

Regulatory Compliance

Supports FDA, MQSA, ACR and internal quality requirements

Patient Safety

Improve patient safety through continuous quality assurance.

Innovation

Drive innovation to deliver advanced solutions for quality and compliance.

Healthcare challenges

Quality and diagnostic safety remain national concerns.

The quality imperative

Reliable imaging supports reliable care.

Diagnostic quality and safety are foundational to radiology. Consistent quality systems help support timely intervention, trustworthy imaging, and equitable care delivery.

These indicators describe different populations, definitions, and study methods and should not be added together.

Evidence note: published diagnostic-error estimates use different populations, definitions, and modeling methods. The figures above provide context for the broader safety challenge; they are not claimed outcomes of PICP.

Current stage

An early-stage initiative under responsible development.

PICP is currently being evaluated through discussions with healthcare associations, imaging professionals, nonprofit organizations, prospective clients, academic collaborators, and other stakeholders. This engagement is intended to validate practical alignment, refine the methodology, and guide a responsible U.S. implementation. The platform is not yet commercially deployed in the United States, and no performance outcome is guaranteed.
